ASEPA Board and President Welcome

Over 20 years ago a small and dedicated group of special educators came together in Glenelg to discuss the creation of a national voice in Special Education. From this initial meeting our National Association was established. The words of those wonderful Australian poets Paul Kelly and Kev Carmody come to mind "from little things, big things grow" and that is very true of ASEPA.

As an association of practicing special school leaders we have achieved a lot in our short history. This is a credit to all who have contributed to the National Association. This conference is an opportunity to pause and give celebration, to reflect and refocus and to indeed continue to plan to Turn Tides.

SA ASEPA President’s Welcome

Dear Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to join us in Adelaide from 16-18 May, 2018, for the Twentieth Anniversary of the establishment of ASEPA! It was in Adelaide that we met for the very first time and since then we have become an organisation that is held in high regard nationally. To celebrate we have invited exceptional International and National speakers to ensure that this conference ‘Turning Tides. Inspiring Minds’ offers the opportunity to learn, improve and lead outstanding practice within the field of Education for students with disability.

The venue of the conference is the magnificent Stamford Grand hotel located in the premier seaside destination of Glenelg. The Stamford Grand overlooks the beach and jetty and has magnificent views of the sunset. A Cocktail Party is planned for Wednesday evening to welcome you and provide an opportunity for you to renew acquaintances or establish new relationships. The Conference Dinner, with entertainment, will be held on Thursday evening. Both events will provide ample opportunity for lively conversation and fine cuisine.

On behalf of the South Australian Special Education Principals' and Leaders' Association I look forward to warmly welcoming you to Adelaide in May, 2018!

Byron Stuut
SA SEPLA President
